Mercy mission given no quarter

The Commonwealth of New Pacific 8th Evac Task Force, which had for months past been standing at the border of Arbor to assist refugees - a deluge which never materialised, has itself been the victim of a scurrilous and deceitful attack while on its homeward journey.

The Star Liner Brikannic has been taken and grave fears are held for those of her crew who may have survived the attack. The Liner Tender Puissance was lost with all hands, along with the valiant escort CNPS Audacious and her wing of S-12 Dauntlesses.

All three vessels were overdue, and the details surrounding their loss have been gleaned from the emergency log of Audacious found adrift along their intended course. Wreckage from three S-12’s has also been salvaged from the deep space between stars in sector Alpha 6,7.

Some are already pointing the finger at elements in the Crannian and New Republic organisations in Arbor, claiming that the humanitarian emergency that drew the task force so far from home was manufactured, and the attack on the vessels the true intent of the affair. Sources in both Port Block Yards and the Commonwealth itself have both advised that they consider these claims unlikely, unhelpful at best, and at worst reckless and prejudiced in their origins.

Port Block Yards has despatched vessels to investigate, and the Commonwealth is analysing the data from the log.

The Department of Foreign Affairs has stated that like all of New Pacific, they mourne the loss of the 191 men and women of the military and merchant services who made up the crews of the three vessels and 12 fighters. Pressed by journalists, the minister confirmed that while all steps are taken to ensure the safety of Evacuation Task Forces, this unfortunate incident will have no impact on the commitment to the current and future humanitarian work of the Commonwealth.
