Hi all,

I was discussing this with Avery by email, and I think it is worthwhile to share
my comments here for everyone to review.  If you disagree with anything I say,
feel free to share...

By email, I said:

Hey Avery!

Sorry I am just getting back about this one now (still catching up on a lot of
email)...

As far as an SM running more than one sector, absolutely!  I myself am running
two sectors (Val Central and the Grave Belt), and there are other SMs who have
more than one sector also.  And yes, you can have them interact to create a
deeper setting for the players.  I do this too, with the Grave Belt atcually
being an area that is claimed as jurisdiction under one of my IC governments on
Valyance (the main planet in Val Central).

The only restriction is that any ship that travels between sectors must be
registered as a player ship.  So an NPC ship (one that you keep in your sector
to interact with players and would normally not need to be registered) might
need to be registered to fly across empty sectors to get between your two
sectors.  I ignore this rule, however, if the two sectors the NPC flies between
are touching.  I think it is safe to assume that if they are touching then the
ship is never leaving NPC space of that SM, and thus its travel does not need to
be monitored by the GM or require registration.

Also, keep in mind that for each sector you open, you will need to be able to
offer players info (such as a website) and also be able to send them action
emails as needed.  If you only have a few visitors at a time, that shouldn't be
hard.  But with to sectors you might get twice the visitors at times.

In short, yes you can open a second sector.  You can open more than that too, as
long as there is space on the galactic map.  :)

All looked eminently sensible to me. I'd only reinforce the point about the need to ensure that as an SM one is up to running two sectors. I have had on average 6 or 7 ships active in New Pacific most of the time, and for me that's a chunk to do. (...) (20 years ago, 14-Apr-04, to lugnet.gaming.starship)
