Ludicrously overdue and long-awaited by some, maybe a
non-event for most, but pretty exciting for me...

Excellent! My son (then 5, now 7) and I have been playing versions of this for
years, and love it! nothing says screw the rules and have fun like playing
BrikWars with a kid. As I fondly remember, our first game involved secret
weapons caches that could only be opened by my sons minifigs, attack rats
riding horses, and a memorably scene where two parka-clad, rock-saw wealding
minifigs vivisected a LEGO kitten (hey, the kitten was armed! At least it was
when we started...). Good times, good times...

Hopefully the novelty will outshine the rough edges

I thought the novelty *was* the rough edges.
