It looked like you'd answered your own question in the earlier post - any
mixture of component, statistic, or platform damage will do. It all depends on
which type of damage the attacker thinks is most effective or most appropriate
to the type of attack he's making. If the attacker is trying to disable a
specific hinge-connection or is targeting a specific chink in the armor, then
component damage is the way to go. For non-targeted damage, like getting caught
in the blast radius of an explosion, then either of the general damage tables is
more appropriate.
