I can't really say; not anytime in the immediate future - even if I drop
everything and work full-time on the rulebook, it takes a couple months of labor
to compile a full revision.
I keep an updates.txt file in my brikwars-dev directory, where I keep the list
of new ideas, revisions, and fixes that are going into the next update. In the
past, I've started a new update whenever the list got to be four or five pages
long. It happened pretty fast with earlier versions, as there was still a lot
of rebalancing and new ideas to do. The 2001 update's been much more stable
than previous editions; the 2001 updates.txt is less than half a page long, and
those are mostly stylistic and layout changes. The next book update will be
less about rules changes and more about new illustrations and examples, better
sidebar commentary, etc. I've also been taking a look at the books put out by
cafepress.com and have been thinking about doing a cafepress edition, just to
give everybody an option that doesn't burn through so many inkjet cartridges.
The other issue is that I haven't had a lot of spare energy for 'personal' Lego
projects since I took the job with the company 18 months ago - besides full-time
work at the secret concept studio, I usually pile up an additional 30-50 hours a
week doing extra freelance for departments in Enfield and Billund. (I'm still
trying to muster up the willpower to start saying no to new Lego work; I've only
managed it a couple of times so far.) So lately, even the maintenence work has
gotten sluggish; I haven't been doing a great job keeping up with website
updates and responding to e-mails. But things are still moving along, however
slowly.
