In lugnet.general, Frank Filz writes:

Something I'd like to see is comments on the game from as many players as
possible. If someone could nominate themselves to collect anonymous comments
if necessary that would be nice. I plan to offer an extensive critique of
the game, and can do that soon, or wait until I get comments back from
players as you folks feel is best.

Either way...I can see pros and cons to waiting and to pre-empting.

I also ask you not to pull any punches in your comments. I know I
did some things wrong, and want as much input as possible
to make things better.

It was fun, but as everyone knows, it was slow.

Some of what should have happened was expectation management.  Over on
dino-island, Stephen got us to largely manage ourselves -- we made our rolls
and told you what happened.  That worked out fine, but we were mostly missing
and such...you might not have liked it as much if we'd been more lucky.  But I
resisted just handling it without you at first.  Another expectation to manage
(and maybe you couldn't have) was in the scale of game play.  I was at least as
interested in doing stuff with individual men on islands and such.  That's not
what the game is geared toward.  Individuals are, by and large, under the radar
for the rules system.  It's kind of about what ships and cannons can do, not
about what men and pistols can.

Obviously another GM would have been a huge help.  I'll take that role next
time if it works out that way.  I think they are sufficiently participatory as
to be fun.  Also, it would have helped when setting up the play area and the
sailors which took notable time.  I think we should have played a shortish
(three hours?) battle game Friday night and then played a campaign game all day
Saturday.

Have you written a report for SteveJ with questions and stuff?

If I think of other stuff, or reading other responses to this thread triggers
other thoughts, I'll respond again.

Chris
