I'm looking for new ways to play with LEGO with my young son.  When he gets older, I'm sure we'll enjoy BrickWars and BrickQuest and Evil Stevie's Pirate Game and so on.   But they're both too complicated and too violent for him at this point.  The game I'm looking for would have the following characteristics:

- Not require many hundreds of dollars of LEGO (like ESPG) to play.

- Not too violent -- no killing, maiming, dismembering, or blowing people up
please.  In fact, no guns.  Instead of war, how about something based on a race,
a chase, a treasure hunt, an engineering problem, etc.?

- Not too hard to learn -- should rely more on imagination and sense of fun than
on lots of dice and tables.  Just a basic structure of rules to help the play
move along, perhaps.

- Lots of fun/interesting/silly things to do.

Can anyone think of an existing LEGO game like this?  If not, does anyone have
interest in kicking some development ideas around?

Thanks,
- Joe

I have a game using Lego set #6436 (and/or 6498), I downloaded the instructions
and ordered the parts to make a dozen.  I call it 'Go-Kart Racing'.  It is
played on Road Base Plates.  Here is a link to pics on my Brickshelf pages:

You can make up the Go-Karts in multiple colors by changing the bricks.  I have
raced with up to 12 Karts.  The rules are a 1-page sheet and there are 2 pages
of Record sheets and 1 page for Turn Sequence for the Moderator.

It is quite simple to learn and can be quite competitive.  I will send you the
rules and other sheets if you care to try.  You must purchase and build your own
Karts (ha ha).
