First of all, are you aware of the Isle of Mist, a castle community concept
wherein different people from different worlds would send expeditions to a
mysterious Isle of Mist that held some unspecified secret.  It was a cool idea
that attracted alot of people, but eventually died because the moderators had
other things to do (real life, etc).

Ineed. IOM was a good concept and an inspiration to games like Starship (as
indicated on the Starship background page
http://www.valyance.com/starship/background.htm)

It would be interesting to see what gaming possibilities there are in
Castle.  These sorts of games all have details to struggle with.  IMO, there
are two additional obstacles that a Castle RPG would need to consider:

1) Many Lego Castle builders have heavily defined fantasy realms with strict
borders that do not easily mesh with other people's realms (in space, such
as in Starship RPG, everyone can have their own world, and everyone else's
world is alien).  Simply giving each player their own nation or continent is
not enough for those with well established medieval worlds.

2) There are two distinct groups of Castle builders: those who employ high
fantasy elements (magic, undead, mythical beasts, etc.) and those who stick
to historical or semi-historical settings (with only sword swinging humans).
This division further complicates the blending of individual players' worlds.

Now, such things *could* be dealt with, one way or another.  *Warning,
shameless plug coming up!* One possible way to deal with it is have each
person's castle world be a planet in Starship (or a similar game) and
provide a little space travel (or magical teleporting if you prefer) to
allow minifigs from one world to visit another.  <grin>

I think the essence of any real concept of a Campaign is how it would work.  A
great concept, but the "how" of it is a make or break.

From what I've seen of Lego RPG games (and most interactive rpg) is the
relative *lack* of combat.  In IOM, combat was expressly forbidden unless both
players agreed, which seems to me to be kinda un-like what combat actually
means... but then again, it would be unfair is one guy with a big army killed
everyone off... also in the new space rpg, Starship, combat doesn't seem
super-likely.

Yes and no.  Yes, most of these types of game are very light on combat.  And
yes, tabletop RPGs and related fantasy tend to be heavy on combat.  That
difference alone is not necessarily bad, IMO.  But furthermore, in Starship,
there is potential for combat scenarios.  Each Player Ship must register a
quality of characteristics including Weapons and Armor.  This information is
available for Sector Mediators to determine resolution of events.

To clarify, each SM that hosts an adventure in Starship may run things as
they wish.  Some may follow the traditional solve-the-mystery adventures
that inspired the game, but others are free to include combat.  I would
agree though, that to keep things fair, that most combat we are likely to
see in Starship will be encounters with NPCs and not Player-to-Player.  But
then again, if an SM permits it, it can and will happen.

My Point= keep thinking about this idea, especially the "how"s of it, and I
betcha it will spark more interest.

Absolutely!  It took eight of us discussing and debating the "how"s of
Starship via newsgroup and e-mail, and over a period of five months, to get
as far as we have.  And I still think our communal discussions will continue
for some time, as the game hasn't actually proven itself yet.  The "how"s,
and their discussion, are of high importance.

If you guys develop a Castle RPG, I would be interested to see how it comes out.

I guess since im coming up with this thing i would be a mediator or as i call
it, campaign master.

I wasnt thinking of meshing peoples worlds, like in IOM, i was just refering to
the IOM as something that intruiged me and should be an inspiration to castle.
If people think this is a good idea, then sure, lets talk about it.
My idea was that this could just be an off time thing. Something that is fun
and easy. Also, i was hoping to include the MM in it. Also, this would probably
be closer to sword swinging humans than the world i am creating. (muuuuch
closer to the Lord of the Rings type world) With some mythicle beasts,
probably. they had stories etc of sea monsters and stuff.
I am trying to work out the "hows" of a campaign game. Any ideas etc would be
very welcomed!
I would be a good C.M. (Campaign Master) because, even though i do have alot of
stuff to do in real life, i do have a decent amount of time on my hands.
I am not trying to make this a combat game. Sure, it would have combat in it,
but not revolving around it. i think a Campaign would revolve more around
surviveing than battling theives or whatever.
Again, im trying to make this an exiting, fun, easy game that could have group
of people.
I am also trying to work in the element of Building.
I was thinking that one or two of the players in the Campaign could chronicle
the mission or whatever. this would leave out the other players, though....
Also, the purpose of this game is that it would be a longer one than most
games. a regular game, you play it for an hour, and you win or lose.
Not my idea. Campaigns would last a few weeks, or a month. perhaps more,
depending on the buysiness of the players in real life, etc.
I dont know how this would work out with people, though.
I just hope we can get something going!

AGAIN: any ideas or comments are welcome!
