Another Mindstorms Challenge!

Tug ‘o War

Description of the contest
The idea of this competition is a standard tug of war contest with two robot contestants.

Contest Rules
Prior to the match start, each robot will be attached to the tug ‘o war rope. The method of attachment is up to each builder, but any method that intentionally damages the rope will not be allowed to compete. Each robot will start the match 18” from the center line. Each robot will have a 5 second startup delay within which the robot may not move. At the judge’s command, each robot will be activated. Winning is determined by either pulling the opponent across the line or whichever robot is furthest from the center line after one minute. If a robot “lets go” of the rope, they forfeit the match.

The Rope
The rope will be approximately 1/4 inch in diameter and made of a low-stretch material. The exact material will be determined at a later date. Each end of the rope will have a loop tied in it that can be used to attach the robots.

Robot Construction Rules
Robots must conform to the following rules:

1. Each robot must fit within a 12” cube and MAY NOT change shape after the start of the match.
2. There is a weight limit of 2.0 lbs
3. Robots must be constructed of 100% LEGO brand parts and normal construction methods only (no cutting, modifying or gluing parts).
4. The attachment point for the rope will be between two and three inches above the table. This attachment point may not move or change once the match starts.

Event Organization
The event will be organized as a round robin, single, or double elimination competition. Event organization will be determined on the day of competition by the event organizers.

‘Bots must be totally autonomous. Remote controlled ‘bots will be disqualified.

The controller (RCX, Spybot, Cybermaster etc) may not rely on an external computer for computational assistance via infrared or wireless communication.

For adherents to the metric system of measurement, please use the 1 inch is equivalent to 25.4 millimeters conversion for all dimensions given in this document and 1 pound is equivalent to 454 grams.

The organizers are not and cannot be held responsible for loss or damage to contestant’s ‘bots as a result of taking part in this contest. Contestants enter the competition entirely at their own risk.

You can download the rules here.

BrickFilms To Run Films from its “Fame, Infamy, and Glory” Contest

One of the biggest crowd-pleasers has been the animated films that are shown. For BrickFest 2006, BrickFilms hosted a contest that, to fit the convention theme, would spotlight “Fame, Infamy, and Glory.” The top films will be shown at BrickFest, and BrickFilms will be having hands-on sessions on how to do a brickfilm!

Vignette Contest Spotlighting Show Biz Annnounced

The staff of BrickFest is pleased to announce a vignette contest - the vignette should have something to do with show biz, whether it be a camera crew or movie scene. Builders interested can contact Scott Quirk at scottquirk1 at cox dot net for more info!

BATMAN is coming to BrickFest!

well, a sculpture of him anyways:-) A 6-foot tall statue of Batman will be on display at BrickFest, courtesy of LEGO Brand Retail. Other surprises will be coming from Enfield, Connecticut and Billund, Denmark....

And what else is coming?

would you believe:
• a 14-foot tall crane?
• a 10-foot tall skyscraper? How about 4 of them?
• NXT contraptions?
• an international airport?
• a “Cankerworm?”

All will be at the Sheraton, so get in on the fun!!

(...) There was a good discussion a few weeks back... (URL) here's a chance to test out those theories. What is the "Right" speed??... Steve (18 years ago, 18-Jul-06, to lugnet.events.brickfest, lugnet.robotics, FTX)
