BrickFest™ has become a major event in the AFOL community, with hundreds of attendees coming each year and the number of visitors growing each year. BrickJournal will be celebrating BrickFest 2005 with articles and photos from the displays and the people who were part of this amazing event, including possibly you.

BrickJournal, in partnership with our friends at No Starch Press, is extending an invitation for all BrickFest attendees (past and present, staff and volunteers) to write a short story (no more than 500 words) on their favorite BrickFest experience. All submissions will be judged by the BrickJournal staff and the top three stories will be selected to be printed in the next issue of BrickJournal, as well as win these prizes:

Third prize: A copy of “The Unofficial LEGO Builder’s Guide” by Allan Bedford

Second prize: Three LEGO books, including “The Unofficial LEGO Builder’s Guide” plus “Getting Started with LEGO Trains” by Jake McKee, and “Virtual LEGO” by Tim Courtney, Steve Bliss, and Ahui Herrera.

First prize: A complete LEGO Library from No Starch Press, including “The Unofficial LEGO Builder’s Guide,” “Getting Started with LEGO Trains,” “Virtual LEGO,” “Jin Sato’s LEGO MINDSTORMS” and “Joe Nagata’s LEGO MINDSTORMS Idea Book,” plus a No Starch Press t-shirt.

We are also inviting Significant Others of AFOLs to write a 200-300 word essay on their perspective of BrickFest and the hobby. The staff will pick the top three essays, which will be published in BrickJournal. The winners will receive a No Starch Press t-shirt and a No Starch Press book of their choice.

Entries can be sent directly to contest AT graybricks DOT com with “Essay Contest” in the title line and deadline for this contest is September 9, so start writing!

Thanks go to No Starch Press, publisher of “The Unofficial LEGO Builder’s Guide” and other LEGO books, for providing the prizes. Check out the complete No Starch Press catalog -- both LEGO books and other technology-related titles -- at www.nostarch.com

Sounds like a great contest Joe, my only complaint is the 500 word minimum. Some of us only get rolling at 500. -Keith (19 years ago, 23-Aug-05, to lugnet.publish.brickjournal, FTX)

There's less than three days on this contest, so please send your entries to contest AT graybricks DOT com! Good luck! Joe Meno Editor/Publisher, BrickJournal (19 years ago, 7-Sep-05, to lugnet.publish.brickjournal, lugnet.general, FTX)
