Well, only 2 days to go now, the fest starts Friday! It is way too late to try to cajole you into coming if you decided not to, so I won’t. But we’ll miss you if you can’t be there this time...

To everyone who’s coming:

The Pieniazek household is a flurry of organisation (or chaos, if you prefer) right about now, we fly out early tomorrow. We have so much stuff to remember to bring, it’s not funny. But anyway, here’s a list of some of the things I’m bringing, which might be helpful to you while you’re packing
  • MOCs Duh! Can’t forget those. Pack them well, plan for needing to repair them when you get there, take pictures so you can remember how they go back to gether, but bring them! (1)
  • MOC cards Don’t forget to print out your MOC cards and bring them too. Cutting them up in advance might be a good idea, we’ll try to have scissors on hand but you know how it is at the con, it may be hectic
  • Dirty Brickster gift... Wrapped, 10 USD, LEGO related, emphasis on funny. This is going to be a blast, don’t miss it because you forgot to get a gift. Friday at 9 PM
  • Club Banner If you’re in a club or clubs of any sort, bring your banners! We’ll have a place to hang every banner brought!
  • Exchange Containers If you’re in a train club, bring a few containers, you never know who you might be able to trade with. I’m bringing 8 MichLTC containers myself, which should just about cover the new clubs. New clubs will be bringing BUNCHES I am sure...
  • Pirate Costume The Pirate Game is always a hoot, there’s a just about all day Saturday session this time. Arr!!!
  • Loaded Dice for the BrickWars game... not that you NEED them to win, but just in case.
  • Camera so you can capture all the memories. Don’t forget extra batteries!
  • Tripod If you have room, that is...
  • Sunscreen Leave those umbrellas at home, it NEVER rains in Portland(2)
  • Change for the MAX... you’ll need some money to ride MAX in from the airport, but the OCC is in a fare free zone. I personally am not sure if it’s exact fare or what so be prepared. Besides, change is always good to have.
  • ID so you can get into the bars after the con and hang with everyone. (oh, and to get on the plane so you can get to PDX!)
  • Folding Money For all the great deals you’re going to find at the Brick Bazaar, and for the auction, auctioneered by yours truly.
  • Questions because there will be lots of great MOCs to ask “how did you DO that” and lots of great presentations and feedback sessions to participate in, and the final Q&A with Jake. (3)
  • Answers To fill out the Ambient Information Display, you’ll need a few URLs of your favorite creations and of you, and some answers, like two truths and a lie(4). You can do it in advance too, which might be a good idea.
  • Good Humor and Patience Because we’re all volunteers, we need your good cheer to make it all work. And we’ll get it too, because LEGO fans ROCK!
I just know this is gonna be great! See you in Portland!

1 - here’s a pretty good thread on packing for Air Lenny had a good one recently too but I’m so beside myself with excitement I can’t find it.

2 - Portland Forecast OK, OK, out of the next 10 days, it calls for showers on 7. But leave the umbrella at home anyway, because supposedly that’s how the locals know who the tourists are. (5)

3 - Which will be broadcast live, network connections permitting, and which will feature questions from fans around the world, gathered via AIM, Y! (room BrickFestPDX2004, self join) and chatrooms on Classic-Castle and BrickLink, technical issues permitting

4 - Speaking of two truths and a lie... In fact, one of the items on the list of things to bring above is a lie. You won’t actually need it. Can you guess which one? Here’s a hint: see footnote #2

5 - I believe that, I really do. But I’m bringing an umbrella anyway.
