Hi all,

For those driving from Indiana/Ohio/Western PA, I've found that skipping I-70 in
PA (The Pennslvania Turnpike) makes for a better drive.  I live in the DC
region, and I take I-68 through Western Maryland instead when heading to the
Midwest.  The interstate runs through the mountains, but isn't covered with
potholes & traffic cones like the PA TPK.  Consult a road atlas & traffic
advisories to be sure, but I've found it to be a much more relaxed drive & a
slightly faster route, especially considering the traffic density one gets in
PA.

Hrm.  Mapquest.com shows the route down into WV and along I-68 starting from
Cleveland is 70 miles longer than taking I-70 straight through.  Is it really
faster?  That's quite impressive if so.

Adrian

Adrian,

Yahoo Maps show the route at slightly under 40 miles longer, diverging in
Fernway, PA, going to Morgantown, VA, and picking up I-68.  The real time
savings to me is avoiding the PA TPK, and the traffic encountered everytime on
it (for me).  Some of the 40 miles can be made up in the 70mph speed limit for
the two hours spent on I-68 {(70-55)*2hrs = 30} (wow, am I a dork).

I *really* hate the PA turnpike - it's like a series of potholes festered with
toll booths.

Pennsylvania, and not towards the denizens thereof.  Bu c'mon, that road just
sucks.
