People may not be intentionally trying to destroy the name, but using it
generically DOES disassociate the name with the event. Just as calling any
soda a "Coke" or Megabloks "Legos" or a Canon copier a "Xerox Machine"
disassociates the name with the company. When people hear "Brickfest," we want
them to think of our event in DC. This has nothing to do with ego or anything,
rather, it is because we worked very hard to make it what it is. In addition,
I feel it is a matter of respect. By using it generically, you are
disrespecting the hard work we put into it, the same as going into a Lego store
and asking for the "Nascar Legos" (which are actually MegaBloks) disrespects
the Lego brand.
Well, that's my ¥2. :)
