I believe the issue is that having the axle pegs in black/grey resulted in
confusion (at least for a fair bit of the target market) between the axle
pegs and the regular pegs.
Or something along those lines anyway (I can see how it could be possible
to confuse the 2, I do it all the time :)
My only complaint is that I have to keep my black friction axle pegs
seperate from my black really-old non-friction axle pegs :)
