My backhoe has yet to have its wheels fall off. Nor had the wheels on "da
Buster" when it was still built.
However, when its chassis was being rebuilt, I used 3L axle with stud to hold
the wheels on my 4404, in anticipation of a 8435/8465-based chassis design.

I don't know, but I would not be surprised, since we now have blue axle pin with
friction for structural uses. Too bad these blue pins don't seem to hold well
either.

To make this on-topic for dear-lego: Dear Lego, PLEASE bring back the 8448 so
the new generation of poor Technic fans (like me) can enjoy it! :)
