Stop moaning please. Exactly what are you so proud of? The only three rare
bits you own are stickers, instructions and box. None of the parts are all
that hard to come by. The hardest would be the 1x1 windows, and they have
been replaced by 1x1 'headlight bricks'. That means that someone buying the
rerelease will not have the same model you have. It also means that the
instructions must be different, as must the box pictures be. Knowing what
boxes were like around '77 (I own a Thatcher Perkins) it's highly unlikely
it will be released in the same box anyway.
That means only the sticker sheet will become less rare. Tough.
Changing the name would be silly. Even though for whatever reason it is in
the 'Hard to find' section in S@H at the moment, as far as I know it will be
part of the Legends series. Should the new Breezeway cafe be Brake-away
cafe? Pizza to go changed to Pizze delivery? Give me a break...

Dear Brad, Jake, and anyone else watching,

I am the owner of two (2) original USS Constellation sets, fulfilling a
childhood dream. I paid quite a bit of money for them a couple of years • ago,
and was proud to be a member of a very small group of people who owned • this set.

Now, you have re-released this set, making my long-time search, and my
feeling of accomplishment irrelevant and meaningless.

Could you have thought about the current owners, and released the model
under a different name?? The Eagle, Constitution, Brilliant, and Wawona • are
all three-masted sailing ships important in US history. I would be partial
to naming the new model "Wawona", as I grew up on a street of that name.

But, please, don't devalue the effort and trouble that some of your fans
have gone to by releasing this model under the same name! It would be as
simple as changing the printing on the sticker and the box and • instructions.

Please consider passing on this plea to the marketing group responsible • for
the project. I welcome all replies, thoughts, and comments at • singlow2@yahoo.com

Thank you for your time and attention.

(...) Actually, looking at the instruction scans, (URL) appears that 398 comes with (URL) the wheels (which in every other set I have seen comes with wheels on a metal axle). Although this part is common with wheels, it would require a (nontrivial?) (...) (22 years ago, 6-Dec-02, to lugnet.dear-lego)
