1.sell a set that contains just basic parts (bricks, plates, slopes) in
the basic colors (like the 3033 but with plates and slopes as well as
bricks)

2.then sell addon sets that contain other parts.
For example:
Building/House addon with green baseplate, windows, doors etc.
Car addon with windscreens, car doors, wheels etc
Plane addon with plane wheels, wings, propellors, jet engines, plane
windows etc
Helicoptor addon with helicoptor parts (mabie, dont know how well this
one would work)
Truck addon with truck parts (mabie this would be the same as the car addon)
Each addon could include an appropriate minifig (for example the plane
addon could include a pilot minifigure)

Mabie you could also have more specialized add-ons: (later on perhaps)
Racecar addon with parts to build some racecars, grandstand (with some
race car drivers) etc
Fire addon with a fire hose, ladder, fire fighters etc
Police addon with parts for making police cars & stuff
Ambulance addon with parts for making ambulances & stuff
etc

One important thing to note is that these sets would include NO
instructions of any kind.

Anyone else think this is a good idea?

Hmmmmm.... sort of like Bionicles, only with real (...) (23 years ago, 14-Feb-02, to lugnet.dear-lego)

(...) LEGO has almost always had this kind of sets in their collection. They used to have the "Basic" line over here (which was called "Freestyle" in the US, if I remember correctly). And now they have the "Creator" line, with basic bricks and (...) (23 years ago, 14-Feb-02, to lugnet.dear-lego)
