Your concern has merit. A posting on a news group could most definately be viewed a "prior art" and effectively prevent Lego from receiving a patent on the design. IANAL, but it seems to me that: Most of the pieces that were mentioned in this thread (and other related threads) are simple modifications of existing pieces (make XYZW part shorter, separate ABCD into two pieces, remove the bump from 1234...)
