Hey everybody...
I've noticed a lot of frustration recently by Lugnuts about TLC's lack of an
explanation for 2001 set actions, neglect to do anything about copyrighted
stolen images, and lack of communication in general to the community. From
the outlook, it doesn't appear to me that progress will happen any time
soon, and its disappointing.
I think that its necessary for the community to stand up, and write a formal
letter to key people in the company, expressing our desires to be
recognized, explaining the track record, and asking for an explanation and
further dialogue. The letter should probably be addressed to more people
than Brad J, for example, Peter Eio (president of LSI) and Kjeld Kirk
Kristiansen (owner, president, TLC) I feel should both be included. Such a
letter could be drafted by a couple people here, reviewed by us, and then a
person can collect names to put on the letter, who support what it says.
This letter should definitely be polite and courteous, stating fact, and
also stating the effects their actions has had on the well being of the
community. It should attempt to express the desires of the broadest base of
Lugnuts possible as well. A focus should be put on developing a healthy
relationship where communication level is high, there is a mutual
understanding of expectations on both sides, and creating a situation where
both sides benefit. Truthfully, both TLC and Lugnet have vast potential for
mutual benefit. This group of people, with the enthusiasm contained here,
has the potential of becoming a HUGE advertising tool for the company. A
few examples would be; Train Clubs, Legofests, and Product Feedback. I'm
sure there are many more.
It is true that we have seen some exciting things happen in the last year.
We've seen the start of a bulk parts program which to my knowledge has been
a good success. Not that it doesn't need tweaking, and not that people
don't think there needs to be more. But its a step in the right direction.
I have personally been a part of the benefit of the relationship started by
Lego Direct by being able to attend Kidvention and hold the LDraw display.
GMLTC has also benefitted from this. Lego is opening up to us, but it seems
they're not being open enough _with_ us.
I feel that its time we put our desires into words on a formal letter to key
people, and sign our names to it. There is so much to be gained if this
relationship succeeds, and unfortunately, there's a lot to be lost too.
Consumer trust is something big that can be lost, and its also hard to gain
back. I think that Lego has already started to lose the trust of its
consumers who participate here on Lugnet. Lets try, for the sake of both
entities, not to let it drop even lower.
Please LMKWYT, I'm willing to help this process in any way I can.
