| | Thoughts on Parts Taxonomy

Currently, there are three active major part databases out there: Partsref, Peeron Inventories, and the BrickLink Catalog. All have their advantages: Partsref has keywords, cross-referencing to other databases, and usually excellent pictures[1]. (...) (23 years ago, 10-May-02, to lugnet.db.brictionary)

(...) Actually, I don't even recognize the parts. My knowledge of 2001--2002 parts is minimal---I think I have fewer than a dozen open sets from those years. ---...--- TWS Garrison tgarriso@math.purdue.edu (URL) (23 years ago, 6-Apr-02, to lugnet.db.brictionary)

(...) You do recognize the part itself, yes? I know the numbers aren't canon yet--but the geometry of the piece (4x4 base to 2x4 top, last brick height toes in at 45-deg, with 2x2 hollow studs and two one- finger click hinge bits) I hope is clear. I (...) (23 years ago, 5-Apr-02, to lugnet.db.brictionary)

Thomas--if you've got it in immediate memory, there are two items that've defying my search: The new Jack Stone container (part # stamped on the 4x4x4 container piece is 30639) and the "doors" that connect via a click hinge (numbered 30625). (...) Clone? (do they have LEGO(r) on the studs?) Tyco(tm), IIRC, used 1/2 thick plates. But I'm hazy on clones (they're not Lego, after all...) so could be all wet. ++Lar (23 years ago, 24-Feb-02, to lugnet.db.brictionary, lugnet.off-topic.clone-brands)

(...) Pedro, good question: No, I was NOT sure they were LEGO, but now that I have checked the studs, they are NOT imprinted with "LEGO", but rather "TYCO" is imprinted on the very center of the plate. Into the trash they go. (Just kidding.) Mystery (...) (23 years ago, 24-Feb-02, to lugnet.db.brictionary)
