To LUGNET users:
For the past 7 months I have heard too much about the color issues. It is
time to put the issue behind us and move on for the good of the community.
Sometimes I think that all of you forgot that this is a toy. A toy for kids
that we are so lucky to get to play with. If you HATE the change so much
sell your LEGO®. LEGO® WILL NOT change back. So stop crying like a little
school girl who just scraped her knee. Ive seen all the rants, cartoons,
and stupid little form letters to send to Jake. Give the man a rest. Better
yet tell him thank you.
To Jake:
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Im not even going to address the color issue, as I have made my opinion
known on LUGNET, and Im making my opinion known to TLC by voting with my
dollars.
|
Thanks.

Whats bothering me are the repeated demands for silence from those who
disagree and continue to be unhappy with the color change. To those who are
happy with the color change:
- Is it that offensive to hear opinions that dont conform to your own?
|
Not the first 150 times it isnt. It does tire one though, by the time you get
to the 151ist.
|
- Arent there any options other than forming a consensus (in favor of the change) or keeping silent? Cant we continue to express contrary opinions?
|
Given that neither of those outcomes are even slightly possible, then we cannot
have concensus.
What Ive done in my personal life in situations is to agree to disagree,
which implies that Ive said my piece to all that I feel should hear it, and now
Im done talking about it, because talking about it more will serve no purpose.
I was taken aback by the above request for the same reasons you were. Freedom
of Speech is a precious right, not to be taken away or abused. Please remember
it was posted in general, not color where it belonged. Had it been posted in
color, I would have never seen it.
Im of the opinion that LEGO made the wrong choice, but they had the right to
make the choice. It is not under my control, I cannot change it, so I accept
it.
|
- Why is unhappiness with the color change issue construed as a personal attack on Jake McKee? I have no beef with Jake - he didnt decide to change the colors. Let me add my own big thanks to Jake for all that he does. But its his job to communicate between TLC and AFOLs, so hes the guy I express my opinions (positive and negative) to. Whats wrong with that?
|
Because some of the unhappy prople *have* personally attacked Jake. Maybe we
havent been reading the same posts, but Jake has been personally attacked many
times. His integrity and his motivations have been called in question.
Shooting the messenger has a long and horid tradition.
Ive met Jake on a number of occasions, and he is a very nice guy. He is well
intentioned, and enjoys LEGO as a hobby in the same ways other AFOLs do. Like
any of us he is not perfect and makes mistakes. He is in an unenviable
position.
|
- Why SHOULD we give up? AFOLs complained for years about (for example) the lack of bulk bricks - and now we have bulk discounts and Pick-a-Brick. I dont think it was a coincidence.
|
I dont ask you or anyone else to give up. I just ask that the discussion be
kept in .color, as you have done.
I respect your opinion, but even more I respect your right to express your
opinion.
|
Thats all. I respect your right to voice your opinions on LUGNET. Please
respect mine.
|
I do Mark. I agree with what you are saying. Thanks for responding in a
rational and respectful tone. I hope I have done the same.
