I think you're missing the point Bill. Your examples don't work here.
Rather ask what would happen if Canon makes change to lenses mount
[ruining the 'system' & breaking backwards compatibility]. And I don't
think that toy x non-toy makes a big difference here.
There is only one worse thing {from this point of view} LEGO can make -
change the brick dimensions.

| (...) Just as an aside, Canon HAS screwed over customers lens mount changes. I'm not sure if you were around for the Hi8 era, when the Canon L1/L2 sported a lens mount called a "VL type lens". Admittedly, it was only for two generations of consumer (...) (21 years ago, 14-May-04, to lugnet.color)
