Hey Allister,
I don't mean to keep you waiting but I haven't gottent an official answer yet.
However, running concensus is that shiny chrome is indeed going away. I was
told you'll be able to get some of the last of it in this set:

Why is it going away? Well, without going into too much detail, shiny chrome is
ridicously expensive and complicated to produce.
So, it seems that shiny chrome is on the way out. But somehow I doubt gone. My
guess is that the molds still exist and that they can be made. I think LEGO is
just going to make shiny chrome parts a little more judiciously from here on
out.
