(...) Absolutely right. On the other hand, the reason why Tolkien's stuff is so much better than the scads of imitators is because it's a 'first-generation copy' rather than second or third. There are many "medieval fantasies" that are not derivatives of Tolkien, but the demand for them wouldn't exist if not for Tolkien. Undoubtedly there are some less original (...)
