Yeah, recycle those babies! They need be only 3 mm long! But mind you: My “***Mutilation Alert***” also applied to my poor fingers! Jamming in hundreds of those babies will make your fingertips cry in pain. (so my advice is: employ children as I did;-)

D’oh! Insert the tube first- then trim it with something...

This is easier said than done (tried it-- one time). The other method was safer, quicker, and more efficient.

So after several shows upon shows with NILTC building and rebuilding my trees, I finally took the time to ‘tube’ them in a similar fashion to yours. Sooooo much better, I have to say. They stayed together like a charm. So I wanted to say thanks for the idea (which i spotted not here, but when I saw the display at Brickworld last year). I don’t use a rod at all for mine, but admittedly, mine are slightly shorter (so far) and have a wider base (4x4).

When I did my tubing, I actually used a sharp razor blade knife and inserted the tube first, then cut the remaining exposed portion off. It worked well enough for me, and did save my poor fingers from hating me too much (originally I started with a duller blade from my pocket knife which was awful). I’m just glad I had over 4000 pieces of dark gray tubing to use...(though i probably only went through maybe 100 pieces.)

Anyways, just wanted to mention that. As soon as I have a few pics of the trees on Brickshelf, I’ll post a link.
