I hope this wont make too much noise. Just a few thoughts I had...
In 1987 there was a cartoon series on TV - knowen as Visionaries: Knights of
the Magical Light. The series wasnt that a big succsess and only survived
one season and Im not sure how many of you heard or rememebr that series.
On the first instance I looked on the new KKII I thought they look too much
the same.
I took some photos from the series in compare with KKII (that youll able to
see by clicking the picture):
And all I can say - judge for yourself. I really want to know what other
thinks.
P.S. I am not in anyway suggesting that TLC copied from that series, just
that maybe their designers grow up on the series and (knowingly or not
knowingly) inspired by it (or worse, they saw that series as kids and as far
as they know knights really looks like that - they werent real knights in
the series as well:)

I used to watch the show and had a few of the toys, so back when the first image
of the new Knights Kingdom minifig sets came out
(the big one that that
showed them all), the first thought that popped into my head was that they
looked like Visionaries. (I mentioned the similarity in a thread over at FBTB,
but it was back when the forums were on ezboard, and the thread is long gone
now.) Basically, to me, instead of looking medieval, they appeared more
futuristic and fantasy based. I was particularly suspicious of 8779 (later
revealed to be The Grand Tournament) which featured horses on wheels; but, I
finally decided that the wheels and launching mechanism were just for added play
value, and not necessarily an attempt to futurize the Castle theme. Still, I
wasnt sure why they had chosen to do the armor in different colors. But, when
the pictures started coming out of the larger Knights Kingdom action figures, I
finally realized that the minifigs multi-colored armor is only due to their
tie-in with the action figures, which like the Bionicle toys, come in several
different colors.
