hey Carl,
Hey Lenny,

These are some great models!  Quite detailed,
yet compact and attractive.  An excellent beginning
in a big project!
I am happy to hear you like them.  Because I tried to build them on the
16x16 baseplate, they would automatically be small, and that way they become
kind of 'cute' ;-)

The shops are also interesting in themselves, especially
the Shop of the 12 masks.. which it seems are bionicle?
Yes, the parts I used are indeed from the Bionicle series.  They are the
Krana masks found in the Bohrok and Bohrok Va sets.  There are 8 different
models in 12 different colours.

An interesting description you write of it,
but I would like to know more about the inspiration
with using those pieces, and also how they represent
within the lego-medieval world.
Well, when I had noticed that some people on Bricklink sold some
hard-to-find Bionicle masks (the large ones, called the Kanohi) I got back
into my 'Bionicle mood' and started buying some Bionicle stuff again,
including the newer models with the (little) Krana masks.  I bought some
masks packs (which only contains masks) to try to complete my collection,
and as a result I got some masks I already had.  When I was looking at the
little masks I wondered how I could mount them to store them away, and I
noticed that the Technic Angle Connector #1 was a pretty good way to mount
them on a Lego piece.  Then suddenly I had the inspiration of mounting one
of my spare masks on such a piece and using it as a kind of statue that
could be worshipped.  That way the idea of building a chapel was born.  I
called it a chapel because it would be built on the smallest baseplate; I
consider a church to be much bigger.  But then I remembered that there was a
two-faced god called Janus in the Greek or Roman mythology (you know, the
guy they named the month January after).  When I was looking through my
spare masks to see which two to use, I suddenly thought: "Hey, why not use
all twelve different colours?".  (This was a logical reaction after having
spent 9 hours and 40 minutes building the Imperial Star Destroyer which is
basically 'nothing but grey'.)

So that's how I decided to make the inside very colourful.  I first wanted
to make the chapel in dark grey bricks, but I noticed I didn't have too many
of those, so I went for this sunrise idea with a half yellow sun and the
colours going from light gray to dark gray.  This resulted in a nice
pleasing contrast inside.  Furthermore I added the series of flowers, to add
yet more colour, but I found it fit very well into the Lego theme of
non-violence (I mean, an altar with a minifig chopped to pieces and some red
plates to represent blood would be going a bit too far).  And that's why I
made the keeper of the chapel in a black cape and hood, and dark grey robes
so that he could be a contrast again to the colourful interior.

So it was simply a case of "Hey, this mask could represent a piece of a
statue", and where does one find statues?  In churches and chapels! (I live
in Belgium, which is mainly Catholic, so we have statues in our churches,
and chapels dedicated to the Mother Mary)  So that's how my Bionicle pieces
became pieces in the Lego medieval (fantasy) world.

I'd recommend releasing "teaser" shots of the buildings
you make so that we can have an early look inside, and
thus make us go back in a few days to get the full details.
Well, I tried to make a teaser shot, but I got a 'This picture is not yet
public' message, so I thought that that was a new protection.  But by
looking at other posts I have figured it out how to do it now :-P
