Actually, that's not the way things work around here. (LUGNET, Usenet, and
the Internet in general.) People weren't telling you things to put you down
or anything -- they were just trying to help. This is a community, and
although there are no police to inforce the rules, there's an expectation
that if you want to participate, you'll follow some general guidelines for
behavior, sometimes called "Netiquette". There's even an RFC -- the
official-as-it-gets-guidelines upon which the Internet is built --
specifically dedicated to this topic: check out
<URL:http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc1855.html>. The mixed-case convention is
explained there, among many other things.
But most importantly, if you want to be a part of the LUGnet community,
posting in all-caps isn't going to make you any friends. Whether you think
so or not, it definitely one of two things: either rude, or the behavior of
a clueless newbie from AOL. I don't think that you want to be either of
those!
