Horse barding is in fact armour used on a horse from what I can remember. It
was very often incorporated into a saddle cloth - metal plates woven between
2 sheets of cloth, a bit like a brigantine) or a light chain mail with the
saddle cloth over the top. So strictly speaking if it just a cloth cover it
is called a saddle cloth. Its rather difficult to establish whether the Lego
horse has mail or plate under his cloth so its fair to assume and call it
barding

Horses' armour (the barding) has been around since the advent of cavalry.
The barding of the Medieval and Renaissance war horse was, of course, chain
mail. By the 15th century, plate began to be used extensively. The barding
was somewhat cumbersome, and usually only the vital parts of the horse were
afforded protection. Full plate barding could weigh up to 100 pounds. There
was experimentation with leg harnesses for horses, but obviously, it never
gained much popularity.
The armoured knight, on his barded horse, with the colorful heraldric cloth
covering the horse, was a majestic sight indeed.
