I got five new Castle sets tonight in Saint Louis.  I got 3 Star Wars
sets (little ones) as well, although most SW were already sold out - that
section had been ransacked, apparently.  I've been looking regularly as I do
my Christmas shopping and errands, and these were the first new Lego sets I
have seen so far.  Someone in the Lego aisle advised me that another store
also had them, with a better selection, so I will check it out tomorrow.  I
did see an Arctic set and the new Town Jr set with the bridge pieces, as
well.
The big Castle looks fantastic, but the price (wasn't even marked) is
probably too much for me right now.  6094 and 6095 are very, very cool sets!
6026 seemed big enough to include a 1 page instruction sheet, but didn't.
The others had humongous instruction books considering the piece counts -
6094 has 100 pieces with a 24 page instruction booklet, with three pages
devoted to the alternate model, which is better than the official model!
Set 6032 (not worth buying unless your after a special piece in the set) has
54 pieces and 12 pages of instructions.
Its been said before that there exists a "dumbing down of America" -
well, I can say that seems likely, and TLC is certainly expecting dumber
kids these days.  Back in my day these sets would have had one page of
instructions (front and back - think 6030, 6040, 6041, and so on, ad
nauseum).  6040 even had an alternate on the back!
Still, I do like a lot of the new pieces, which is what I remember
looking forward to most as a kid - the new pieces!  Not so much the new
models (which were always exciting), but the new special pieces, that I
could utilize!  Several of the new special pieces are cool, especially those
females and who knows what else in the new big castle.  I like the new grey
half octagonal burp (crap, whatever) that is in 6094 and 6026.  I also like
the glass piece in 6095,which is indeed transparent, and printed - not a
sticker!   6095 also is the first set I know of that has printing on
mini-fig legs!  Maybe I will make a post later about the SW sets if I bother
opening them...

Is there any rhyme or reason to the availability of the new
castle, or is it more or less random, based on orders and distributors
and such?

I've seen the posts of people who have come across them in the last
few days but no where hereabouts seems to have any yet.

You'd think in this part of California, people'd have their priorities
straight! :)

Nothing new (not even SW I dont think, etc) at the local TRU, etc.

I had to stick the new Castle set under the scan box at TRU in Milwaukee this weekend and just about had a heart attack. $79.99 for 400 some odd BURPs/CRAPs (whatever the ugly one piece parts are)!. Does TLC think kids can't make the walls out of (...) (25 years ago, 19-Dec-99, to lugnet.castle, lugnet.general)
