Increasing the value of max_trace_level did the trick for me. Setting it back
to 5 (the usual default) reduced but did not eliminate the artifacts for me.
Setting it to 20 (as in the Raves library IIRC) or 25 (in Jeroen de Haan’s v1
radiosity files) was sufficient, if not necessarily efficient.
On the subject (from the Zenith post) of the trans-black recipe, I’ve found the
RGB values in lugnetcolors.inc for NW02t: <0.333333333333333,
0.309259259259259, 0.266666666666667> to be too dark. Converting the
‘trans-brown’ RGB values in the color table recently posted to Peeron.com to
decimals, I got: <0.74901961, 0.71764706, 0.69411765’> which is pretty close to
the <0.725,0.7,0.7> in the Raves library.
For an example using this (with filter=0.9, transmit=0.1, and the other NW02t
settings as in lugnetcolors.inc), rendered with the 2Bounce radiosity option and
max_trace_level=25, see the canopy on:
