Currently I use the mouse wheel to zoom in/out or if you press it, you can move to the sides (auto-pan) like in Internet Explorer (I'm assuming you're talking about the MS Windows version, I don't know how to get the mouse wheel to work under (...) | Sorry to keep asking for this stuff, I really think your work is great. But I just can't help but think of ways to innovate. As for moving (and rotating) pieces in 3 space.
