Hello folks! I'm pleased to announce Mac MPD Utility (MMU, to coin an
acronym) has been updated to version 1.2.1, which adds a few new
features and a bit of resilience to the 1.2 look. You can download this
50k behemoth at:

http://bingweb.binghamton.edu/~jdevona0/computers/files/mmu121.zip

Reading metadata is fixed (just extracts it to a text file). MMU now
saves preferences, including your choice of whether to read and write
metadata but also some formatting options and my personal favorite, an
option to automatically open your results, so for instance the utility
immediately opens assembled MPDs in mac brick cad (or whatever program
is configured to open .mpd files).

Another cool thing is now the utility can automatically generate a
master submodel, so if you have a bunch of models made up and if you
don't select any of them in the main model list window, it will create
one that includes all the submodels, just jumbled together at 0,0,0. So
you still have to arrange them, but its kind of cool.

The last thing I added, which is sort of an experimental feature, is
the ability to import existing MPD files into new ones. Basically it
just inserts all their sub-models in the new file. I guess it could be
used if you already had an MPD of part of a much bigger model you're
making, you could just include that MPD instead of all its components
all over again. However at this time it just blindly copies the file
contents over, so the format might not match your preferences, and most
importantly it won't work with the auto main model feature, which will
refer to the file as a .mpd, when its actually broken into submodels
and should be referred to by te sub-main model. If that makes any
sense. (robustifying this, so you can do cool things with multiple MPD
files and have the utility actually understand what its supposed to be
doing, will be the focus of the next version). So, experiment with this
if you're curious about it, but otherwise importing MPDs is still sort
of sketchy.

Otherwise, I added a tad more error checking (still far from
bulletproof) and some more help stuff. This is an exercise in
applescript programming as much as anything else.

I'm gonna wait a few days to update the web site and the different
download sites, just in case I or anyone here discovers a problem. Let
me know if you find any problems, or think of anything else MMU oughta
do.

Jim

OK, I submitted my 1.2.1 update to MacUpdate. If you could update the versiontracker listing sometime, James, that'd be great. I appreciate it! No hurry either. (URL) new years! Jim (20 years ago, 1-Jan-05, to lugnet.cad.dev.mac)
