Actually I prefer to keep the discussions here if possible. That way
anything that comes out of it is publicly available.
Anyhow, I modeled my suggestion after some code I saw in browseurl.el.
I don't have it in front of me right now, but I think it had code for
launching a configurable external browser window on a URL. That was
close enough to launching an external ldraw file viewer to get me
going in elisp. There are probably some other good ideas in there
that I'm not skilled enough to follow.
