LDLite currently does not rely on the filename for anything.
But if it could use the extension to tell .dat and .mpd
files apart, that would help.  Should it?

i'm a little unclear on this point, gyug... .MPD files have the same .DAT
extension???? perhaps you mean when posting to LUGNET??? because all of the
.MPD's i've DL'd from people's sites... and even MPD's built with my M-Peedy
program have .MPD as their extension....

And by default, LDraw files are not required to have the .dat extension --
it's just the default.
