I'm working on some parts that will need a hi-res 1/8 sphere primitive.  Has
anyone done up a version of this?  How about a 3D tool that could build it?

I wrote a tool for generating a 1/8 sphere (including type 5
lines) for a mock-up part I made once.  Write me if you want
a copy of the source code.

Sorry about the delayed response, but I was on vacation.  I'll take a look
at my sphere generation code as well and at the very least determine the
difficulty of adding type 5 lines.  I don't think it will be very difficult
to do, but I haven't actually tried it yet ;-).

My sphere generator can generate a 1/8 sphere with an arbitrary number of
segments around each edge, so if you wanted something other than a
48-segment sphere (12-segment 1/8 sphere), it's trivial for me to produce; I
just have to add in the type 5 lines.  However, if Jacob's has the same
ability, or you want one with the same number of facets his produces, you'll
likely get a faster response from him.  Either way is probably better than
trying to produce one yourself, though; it's less trivial than one might
guess.  I know it took me awhile to get my generalized sphere generation
code to produce results that I was satisfied with.
