That pin in the middle, appears to add significantly to avoid unintentional
disconnect. The tallness of the pillar with respect to the shortness of a
typical stud would cause it to be much less stable without the pin. The Jack
Stone parts don't just have tubes on the bottom, they have an arrangement within
the tube to mesh with the pin.
