Out of morbid curiosity and the never ending pursuit of opening myself up
for attacks, I would like to pose/offer a question or idea.

I will state up front that my only experience with finding parts is via the
MLCAD interface. So anything I saw can be considered suspect.<G> Some of
this comes from the frustration of using the mix of parts in the top
catagories and the alphabetical listing below and trying to decide how a
part could have been described so I can find it. Things are not consistent
between the two but that is because of the never ending addition of parts.

I can see the need for a generic primary name for objects that is not
specific to a particular catagory like town, castle or space so I am not
questioning that since the same parts can be used across mutiple Themes.
What I would like to know or see (whichever) is a sort of method for cross
referencing the parts either by keywords or fancy theme catagory index.
This may be beyond the scope of the current effort but to give an example.

The part number would always stay the same no matter what the desc text
associated with it. The "Space Gun" part you mention below would be in Space
as "Space Gun" and in the Minifig Assessory as "Bar 1.5L with Handle and
Female Stud" (this name is meaningless to me but that is my own lack of
experience).  The part with "Brick 1 x 1 with Plate and Cones" would be
listed in at least three catagories, Minifig Acessory (why here?), Space (as
Space Positioning Rockets) and Town (as Loudspeakers)

The reason I say this is that the general terminology you choose such as
"Bar 1.5L with Handle and Female Stud" needs to mean something to people who
are looking for a part and don't know what to call it.  But they may know
that the model they are working on uses parts that came in some Space Kit or
in a Town Kit.

I'd like to propose the following name changes
as part of the migration away from "theme" categories.

These are my _suggestions_ for many of the parts
currently listed in the "Space" CATEGORY.
(I'm still thinking of new names for the other "Space" parts.)

Note that _all_ new names listed herein beginning with "Minifig"
are meant to be filed into the CATEGORY of "Minifig Accessory"
(and not "Minifig").

Please LMKWYT.  ;-)
Thanks,
Franklin

Keywords... ;-) When looking for a part, and you don't know what it's called, but you *do* know a set it's used in and/or what purpose it serves, hop over to the PartsRef ("(URL) use the Keyword search. I have used this numerous times to find parts (...) (24 years ago, 8-Jan-01, to lugnet.cad.dev)
