Older versions of Delphi has been available 'free' for a long time. Almost any
PC-magazine with a CD has had one version or another of Delphi sometime (at
least here in Europe). But it's never the latest version, and it's only the
'Standard' one, mostly with a bit of legaleze (sp?) telling you that you can
program for yourself, but not sell the programs you do with it.
Here in Sweden you can go to the library, find the right issue of the
magazine, and borrow that for a couple of days.
There's also a book about graphics with Delphi out, which contains a Delphi 4
on the CD. Don't remember author or title right now, but I can surely find out
if needs be.
What's the catch with 'Standard' version? Well, not very much up to D4. You
can do almost anything with them, but you don't get the source code for the
libraries - something which might be very much in need sometimes when your
program doesn't do as you think/want.
In D5 OTOH, the 'Standard' version is almost useless, as they have removed the
database support from it!
Oh, and in D1-D3?, the 'Standard' version didn't have the 'math.pas' included,
so you would have to download some free version instead (Why would a
'Standard' user want to do anything which needs math :-)
BTW, you don't want D1, as that is old 16-bit land!
