I program mostly in VB (or worse), and have only passing knowledge of
Windows messaging.  You'd broadcast a custom message, right?  So all
windows would receive it?  Or just top-level windows?

As far as I understand it, it's just the top-level windows that receives
broadcasts. Of course, I could try to direct a message to a specific LDAO
window, if you'd prefer that (never done that, but we all have to learn
something).
(BTW, what's worse than VB?)

This is an interesting idea, but I'm not sure I'm ready to tackle a message
hook.  Those things always mess me up in a big way.

I have no (real) experience of VB, so I cannot help you there, but there is
surely someone here that can?

Feel free to mail me, I you get interested enough to give it a try!
