OK, with the new upload-watcher in place, I can say with complete certainty
that uploading of large DAT files is still broken. Actually, uploading them
is OK, but the part where they go into the newsserver is broken. But it's
still a bug.
The baseplate Jonathan uploaded has all of the studs -- and the content is
approximately 29KB. (I downloaded the version that the server received from
Jonathan and not the version that appeared in the .cad.dat newsgroup.) The
version that appeared in the newsgroup is missing most of the studs and its
content length is approximately 16.5KB.
With this concrete data (failure case) in hand, I should be able to replicate
the problem reliably, figure out why some lines are being dropped, and how
to fix the problem. I pray that it will turn out to be something as simple
as a CRLF conversion issue and not something more insidious. It *is* curious
that -never- has a large article in .admin.statistics been chopped. These
posts are generated automatically by the server and guaranteed to have normal
LF line endings. DAT files typically have CRLF's...whether uploaded through
the form interface or (likely) sent via the mail-to-news gateway. I think
another common interesting clue was that both BramL and BenV had sent their
DAT files in via mail. Oh well, I'd better stop talking and start digging.
