Does stl2dat automatically use consistent winding (CW/CCW) of the faces?  I
noticed in L3Lab that except for the circular primitives you added later, all
the other faces use the same winding.

Yes. The STL format says that the triangles must be CW, so of course stl2dat keeps this information.
I did not yet add the BFC macro,  I think I will add this for experimentation soon.
I will have to check the orientation for the cylinders if it is an outer or an inner cylinder. This should not take too
munch effort, as the normal of the face is also given in STL format.
