dear senior authors,
I'm currently working on vector-versions of the two space-bricks 1x6x5 (tony
hafner uploaded hires-scans on brickshelf and you can see them in his gallery on
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=42956
I plan to make usage of a multipart-file for the border and numbers section.
unfortunately they include two dithered colors. to get a feeling for the
layering of the subparts I did a little exercise on the 6553 - crisis news crew
sticker:
http://space.tin.it/io/wtschage/Lego/Sticker_6553.gif
Luckily the admins assigned me standard colors for this sticker but let's for a
moment assume that they are dithered. I divided the sticker in a pattern- and a
thin-box+border-section (colored in red only for demonstration purposes). the
border will be used only in the sticker. the pattern itself will subsequently be
used on the wedge 4x4, the minifig torso and the tile 1x1:
http://library.brickshelf.com/scans/6000/6553/6553-01.html
therefore the sticker is made of two subparts:

no problem with the thin-box+border part. because of the sticker standard
http://news.lugnet.com/cad/?n=8729 (The color of the thin box corresponds to
background color of the sticker pattern.) and because the background color is a
dithered one, all triangles and quads go into a subpart using the main color.

the tricky one is the pattern. it has three colors. one is a standard color
(white) one is dithered (Color 279 - say Purple-Blue) and last but not least a
main color which will become the background color of the pattern. I'm not 100%
sure on the correct usage of this dithered/main color. my code would look like
this:

the background would get whatever color I assign in the main part (standart-blue
in the other parts). even if I use a dithered color it respects the standard of
the linetype 1 restriction. the dithered color 279 would inevitably end in a
sub-sub-file because of the linetype 1 restriction (hopefully we get soon rid of
this limited range of colors) and would look like this:

my questions are:
* can I assign a dithered color to the pattern-subpart although the subpart has
mixed colors? did you get me?
is this 1 272 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 1 s\71472a.dat allowed?
* is it allowed to mix full colors with dithered colors in a subpart or do I
have to seperate all the dithers into their own subfile?
* is it correct to store all subparts in the s-folder or shall I store the
pattern in the normal "Parts"-folder?
many thx in advanced, w.

| (...) Yes, you can use standard colors (0-15, 32-47) in a subpart that has color 16 for a dithered color. (...) Yes. Each dithered color must go in a separate subfile, but each subfile may have any number of standard color items. One exception to (...) (21 years ago, 12-Jul-03, to lugnet.cad.dat.parts)
