if cad.dat was somewhat more alive i'd post it there . . . but i hate to
disturb the dead. and geek won't accept dat data, so
some time ago i bought the book: "how the universe works" (dk, london 1994)
it had a table with values to build a model of the constellation of leo with
the stars in proper relation to each other. i made a dat file of that. if
you view it from the front, its the way we see it from earth. the size
depends on the actuall brightness of the stars. the second file doubles the
size of the spheres and ads some planes to make rotating more interesting.
this might add another aspect to the idea of other uses for ldraw (though
the universe seems to be more the realm of vrml.wrl files). l3lab is easy to
use with the file with the buttons for the views. if somebody wants to build
the spheres of lego bricks and calculate a new scale this might fit into
cad.dat.models.

| (...) Actually, lugnet.cad.dat no longer exists as an actual, active group for posting. Now, it's just a placeholder for old posts and a gathering point for the .dat.subgroups. (...) That's pretty neat! I love seeing alternate uses for LDraw. :) (...) (21 years ago, 2-Feb-03, to lugnet.cad.dat.ideas)
