8458 used (at least) two different silvers, 131 Silver for the corrugated pipes
and flexible rods and a lacquered silver for panels and hubs.
8448 hubs were definitely lacquered
8446 was a big mix like 8458. Some silver (flexible rods), lots of lacquer.
The green there was lacquered on too. Hubs were lacquered.
8417 is, I believe, lacquered on its hubs
I would of course be remiss if I didn't mention 8674 as part of this story. It
too was a lacquered chrome part; but its hubs were only painted on the front
(outside)! This was done as a cost-cutting measure to bring the set into budget
for release. It's a pretty key item for understanding how the lacquering
process goes together. Proof without someone having to sacrifice parts to see
the "undercoat" plastic color. :) [as a side note, Peeron gets this right with
their inventory... bricklink should be updated]

| (...) Also relavent to this is 8520 Millennium from the throwbot/slizer line. This contains a "Throwbot Disk, Millennia, 9 pips, riding motorcycle and throwing disk Pattern" (as Bricklink calls it) in metallic gold (i.e. flat gold ala the silver (...) (14 years ago, 30-Jun-10, to lugnet.cad)
