LDraw parts are just a bunch of triangles, quads, and lines.  There's no
such
concept as "solid".

The computer hasn't been programmed with a representation of "solid" for an
internal representation of a LDRAW part, yet.  But he brings up an
interesting argument:  Should there be, in case someone wants to make a
virtual cross-section model of a piece, for instance?

Currently, people can only model virtual models of real bricks that are
complete.  Cutting one up for a cross-section would mean that they have to
cross-section it and then do the extra step of making the hollow shell
solid.

I therefore propose the question:  Should LDRAW model files have an internal
"solid" extension that will be representing their inner texture?

One plausible use I could see for making the internal representation of
LDRAW model files solid could be to enable cross-sections of complicated
models possible using instructions generators, in order to show a complex
sub-assembly step that is hidden under a lot of parts.

With the availablity of solid internal representations of parts,
user-generated instructions could show partially chopped off parts as real
solid representations, instead of having to use a different assembly to get
around the limitations of a part that is in the way.
