There is NO easy way to make a .MPD file
into a .ldr/.dat file that will be viewable when done.

This isn't really 'easy', but you can:

1. Use either splitmpd or empeedy to separate the MPD into LDR files
(use a separate directory to store them!)

2. Use LDAO's Inliner to bring the submodel files into the main file.

Or split using MPDWorkshop and inline useing my DeSubPart plugin for LDraw
Design Pad.
