Here are a few pics of my Northwest Artifact (Totem Pole). It is 6 feet tall,
has a 7-1/2 foot wingspan and uses about 20,000 bricks and plates.
The technology I developed to enable such massive (and thin) wings is called
Plywood and Staples. The wing bricks/plates have studs turned 90 degrees from
the wing backs regular studs-up orientation. The sheets (each only one stud
thick) are held together with axle-hole bricks and 2-long axles. The staples
capture the ridges on the wings and hold them together. The wing assembly weighs
about 30 pounds.
During its debut at the Con, I had to assemble and disassemble it no less than 4
times. Each time it came apart, moved and went back together without incident.
My Totem Pole is modeled after one Ive always admired located at Stanley Park
in British Columbia. Here is a link

It was voted NWBC06 Best in Show. It is, as yet, incomplete. The Bears body
still needs to be built. I estimate another 8,000 pieces (mostly browns) and
itll be another 4 feet taller when complete.

Enjoy!
