Matt Chiles used this technique heavily in his roller coaster, and referred to
it as pony-eared (the 2x2 plate is pony-eared into the 2x4 plate).
This comes from the old castle sets, before there was a horse element. The ears
of the horses were attached to their heads in this fashion.
I wish I could include some links to the roller coaster, but the site seems to
be down at the moment.
