I actually would do it in bricks instead of plates, and I would use lime green,
medium blue and regular blue... great way to get rid of lime green imo.
When I build a mosaic, studs out, I overlap bricks on the seems of the
baseplates and I never use a backing board. I find that an easy and simple
solution.
I use this part http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=3176 evenly spaced
out across the top edge of the mosaic, and build up the area they are attached
with plates to reach the brick height. A few screws thru the exposed holes, and
Bobs your Uncle, (without drilling thru any parts.)
Also, regardless of going with plates, or bricks, I would use larger size, there
is no need for a mosaic with those large spaces of colour to be all one by one.
Good luck with your project.
